Placing students at the center of learning development is essential.
Equipping students with the skills to drive their learning direction is one of the most important tools that we as facilitators can give our students. I believe in the using the key competencies and a personalised pedagogical approach (based on self-regulated learning) to establish a learning environment that reflects the development of these skills and the most importantly, the learner’s needs.
Remaining adaptable by placing ourselves as teachers in ‘the learner’s seat’ will help us remember that we are always learning new things. This will assist us in finding the right strategy for each individual. Our role as facilitators is not only to equip students with new learning and the reflective tools and processes to do this, but to seek the right method that will connect and engage each child. All of these, while keeping things ‘fun’, will maintain ‘learner engagement’ and ultimately equip the next generation to succeed and take their place as effective contributors – ‘lights’ in society.
